We were delighted to hear that our latest shipment of aid has arrived in Zaporizhzhia, consisting of specialist maternity, neonatal, and trauma supplies.
As you may have seen in the news, evacuees from the destroyed city of Mariupol finally arrived in Zaporizhzhia today, so medical professionals there will be under even more pressure to provide care to traumatised, injured, and stressed people – both residents and refugees. Zaporizhzhia has also been the victim of shelling and attacks from Russian soldiers in recent weeks, so our supplies will make a massive difference.
The aid we’re providing has been based on requests from teams working on the ground in Ukraine. One of the core pieces of aid is the Baby Lifeline out-of-hospital birth bag (pictured). This bag contains everything needed for births, whether they’re straightforward or emergency, and is a backpack for easy transport to a bunker, a field birth, as well as hospitals operating without their full equipment.
We have already heard from professionals we’re supporting in Ukraine that the bag has been used in the births of several babies, and we’re incredibly proud to be able to help at this time. There are still many expectant mothers in Ukraine, particularly in the eastern regions, and our aid is reaching them and the amazing health professionals supporting them.
We are enormously grateful to everyone who has donated money and equipment- from large organisations to individuals – every bit has and will go to supporting Ukrainian women and babies.
