Sara Ledger

Head of Research and Development at Baby Lifeline

Sara Ledger is Head of Research and Development at maternity safety charity Baby Lifeline. She is the lead author of Baby Lifeline’s Mind the Gap reports, which investigate maternity training provision, prioritisation, and assessment in response to key themes in mortality and morbidity in the UK. She works with the charity’s Multi- Professional Advisory Panel to develop and assess training interventions centred around these themes and improving care in maternity.

Having set up Baby Lifeline’s Family Voices Group, Sara is able to bring the voice of families to everything our charity does to make birth better and safer for all mothers, birthing people, and babies.

She is also instrumental in the running of Baby Lifeline’s Ukraine Appeal, through which the charity has donated more than £3,120,000 worth of maternity equipment to midwives and doctors working in some of the country’s most dangerous frontline areas.

Sara represents Baby Lifeline nationally in affecting policy, national care, and research; she is a member of the Maternity Transformation Programme Stakeholder Council, a member of NHS Resolution’s Maternity Voices Advisory Group, and part of the National Perinatal Epidemiology Unit (NPEU) Patient and Public Involvement Network.

In January 2021, Sara gave oral evidence to the Health and Social Care Committee’s ‘Maternity safety in England inquiry’ hearing.
