Baby Lifeline was saddened to learn that, on Monday 8 July 2024, the Ohymatdyt Children’s Hospital in Ukraine was attacked by Russian missiles. The attack killed two people and left over 300 injured.
With 620 beds, Ohmatdyt is the largest children’s hospital in Ukraine. Staff treat almost 20,000 children and perform around 10,000 operations annually, including advanced neonatal care and surgery to help newborn babies.
Our thoughts are with those who were affected by this tragic event.
Alona Bondarenko, founder of the Alwaysbusymama project from Ukraine, who has been cared for at the hospital, recently visited to see the consequences of the attack.
She said: “This place is very special to me because within these hospital walls, I experienced one of the most challenging and pivotal periods in my life and my son’s life.”
Alona shared the severity of the destruction caused which includes damage to eight surgical, five oncological, two intensive care units, the operating block, the radiology and radiation therapy departments.
