Another five Community Midwives’ Bags arrived in Ukraine in May 2024, along with other much needed medical equipment.
John McKenna, who drove the equipment from the UK to Ukraine, told us that the bags are being taken to air raid shelters as well as being used in hospital settings. He said:
“I get more requests for midwives’ bags than I have, so we try as much as possible to make sure the packs are sent to the people in areas of need… If I had 100 bags I would find them a home.”
Baby Lifeline has now donated more than £2,900,000 of maternity safety equipment through its Ukraine Appeal since March 2022.
These donations have meant that those attending births have everything they need to deliver safe care, even in those areas where basic equipment is scarce.
