Welcoming Dr Nia Thomas as Baby Lifeline’s New Chief Operating Officer

We are delighted to extend a very warm Baby Lifeline welcome to our newest colleague – Dr Nia Thomas.

Nia joins us as the new Chief Operating Officer across both Baby Lifeline and Baby Lifeline Training.

Nia has over 25 years of experience working across the NHS, local government, civil service, and charitable sector in England and Wales. She has predominantly worked with babies, children, and families from pregnancy to age five, particularly those living in poverty and areas of high deprivation, to ensure the very best start in life.

Her experience spans working with specialist midwifery services and health visiting teams, managing integrated children’s centres, commissioning post-natal depression groups, managing early language support, and contributing to the government’s Start for Life policy. Nia also has a strong interest in self-aware leadership – the topic of her doctorate – and is keen to support us in ensuring Baby Lifeline’s culture of excellence is seen and felt both inside and outside the organisation.

“We’re delighted to welcome Nia to the team and know her wealth of experience will help us strengthen Baby Lifeline’s work both in the UK and globally,” Judy Ledger, CEO & Founder of Baby Lifeline.

Nia recently moved to Cheltenham with her husband and dog, after a few years of living and working in London and the South-East. She retains her Welsh accent and would be very pleased to have a conversation with you in Welsh.

Her appointment comes at a pivotal time for Baby Lifeline, as we continue to grow our training, research, and advocacy work to improve maternity and neonatal safety. Nia’s expertise will be invaluable as we expand our reach and impact.

Nia is looking forward to getting to know the Baby Lifeline team, affiliated experts, and valued supporters, and working with us to make care safer and better for every pregnant woman and newborn baby.
