St. Chad’s Mothers’ Union in Lichfield, Staffordshire, part of the worldwide Christian charity Mothers’ Union, has donated yet more mother and baby essentials to Baby Lifeline’s Ukraine Appeal.
The 20 ‘mum packs’ will be sent to frontline areas of Ukraine along with Baby Lifeline’s out-of-hospital birth bags so that mothers and babies can have the safest care possible in the circumstances they find themselves in: birthing in bomb shelters, metros, and evacuating hospitals.
Put together by the St. Chad’s Mothers’ Union’s team using donations Christchurch parish and St. Chad’s Church in Lichfield, the packs contain everything the parents of newborn babies need.
“Each pack contains the essential items needed by a baby after birth, including a hat, vests, nappies and sacks, baby grow or sleep suit, bib, mittens and socks, cream, lotion, a cardigan and blanket,” explains Val Hicks, who has been co-ordinating the Staffordshire-based team.
“Each baby also receives a toy or rattle, and Mum gets maternity pads, disposable pants and a shower gel or something nice.”
Judy Leger, Founder and Chief Executive of Baby Lifeline, said: “Hundreds of babies a day are being born in Ukraine. Due to the stress of war, the needs of pregnant women and their babies have become more complex.
“Baby Lifeline’s Ukraine Appeal launched in March this year and has already raised £500,000 to send lifesaving equipment to frontline areas, increasing maternity safety in the most difficult of circumstances.
“The work being done by local supporters like St. Chad’s Mothers’ Union is helping us to continue to care for mothers and babies following their safe arrival, as they face the realities of looking after themselves and their new babies as the war continues around them and even basic resources are hard to find.”
