Imogen is now a happy healthy two year old but without their fast-acting care and what they do for those babies every day, she wouldn’t be here. We will forever be grateful for them.
What a wonderful story of a little girl who was born so small and premature. Only a few years ago babies born at this gestational age would not have survived, yet with outstanding and family centered care, miracles do happen.
Rachel’s Nomination:
I had a straightforward healthy pregnancy until I experienced sudden heavy bleeding at 22 weeks and five days. My labour started and I was rushed to Singleton Hospital where I honestly couldn’t have had better care.
When I arrived at 15.05pm, there was a team of midwives, doctors, consultants, nurses –everyone was waiting for me. They didn’t just look after me but dad too as he was just as petrified. My waters burst and Imogen was born at 15.20pm: within 15 minutes every care was put in place and we were talked through everything that could happen or was about to happen.
Luckily for us our baby came out fighting! The care she received being born at 1lb1oz was phenomenal. We spent 98 days there and they went above and beyond for us. As a family and as a mum, to have your baby so early is petrifying. One minute you’re pregnant and everything is fine, the next your world is upside down and your baby is fighting for their life in an incubator. It’s a world you know nothing about, but every day the staff would sit down with us and explain everything and ask for our input as her parents, so we always knew what was happening, no matter what time of day or night.
They even gave us a bedroom on ward whilst she was critical, then as she got stronger they housed us across the road for 13 weeks. Imogen is now a happy healthy two year old but without their fast-acting care and what they do for those babies every day, she wouldn’t be here. We will forever be grateful for them.
