The Nomination:
The maternity training team have developed a maternity training package that promotes the gold standard of care for all those working in maternity services. This includes bespoke study days, MDT Saving Babies Lives study days, PROMPT including practical MDT case studies, and a comprehensive fetal monitoring day. All the sessions have included contributions from specialists in the field and are delivered with varying modalities to ensure that engagement and enthusiasm remains. We have also facilitated external study days from Baby Lifeline Training Ltd., Bio-mechanics and perineal suturing to support continuous professional and personal development. We also created sessions for cultural awareness, discrimination and escalation.
Our Practice Development Midwife ensures that these study days are relevant, educational, meet our national standards, multidisciplinary and ensure that all staff provide care to our women to the highest standard.
We were able implement an international midwife recruitment package which included pastoral and skills study days. Recently we had the honour or hosting a system wide celebration event that bought all our international midwives from three trusts together to celebrate our international recruitment journey.
Our clinical skills facilitators and training team also work alongside our midwives to provide support in clinical settings. This has aided development through the preceptorship period and created confident and competent midwives who feel secure and supported throughout their careers. It has also meant that our retention has improved and we have been able to recruit our newly qualified midwives into an established programme.
There has also been the successful development and implementation of our student power hour, providing five days of hour sessions including clinical skills, debates, fetal monitoring and debriefing opportunities to highlight the support and commitment to our student body.
We work exceptionally hard to ensure our compliance meets the required standards and work together to ensure education and knowledge is shared at every opportunity.
