“Laura Fullwood my appointed community midwife has been awe inspiringly amazing. At 22 weeks pregnant I was tragically diagnosed with grade three breast cancer. When I informed Laura of the diagnosis, she quickly got to work connecting the dots of communication between obstetrics and the cancer care team. Her proactive response saved not only precious time in encouraging collaborative practice between the two camps but also saved a lot of stress for all concerned in mine and my unborn baby’s care. Undergoing major, life changing/lifesaving surgery just mere weeks after diagnosis, Laura had managed to help cultivate secure and trusted relationships between myself and Miss Sarah Harper (obstetrics). Knowing my unease at initial public appearances following surgery, Laura took to paying me home visits. She’d stay and put me at ease and take time to listen, advise and treat me as a valued individual. When the confirmation came through that the cancer was growing again, both Laura and Miss Harper were quick to act and bring forward the induction date for delivery of my baby. Throughout labour, Laura made sure she was present physically while she was able to be and then she and Miss Harper both perused my progress from afar when they were unable to be at hospital. Miss Harper has always ensured she has paid visits whenever I have been admitted to hospital. A lady of sound knowledge and quick wit.

Laura and Sarah’s compassion, commitment and understanding has made me feel safe and secure in my most vulnerable of times. Both of these ladies have been my absolute rocks throughout this life changing process. A process that can only be described as a thunderstorm with the two of these highly professional ladies being that silver lining around the storm cloud giving the promise of the sunlight that will inevitably follow.

There is so, so much more positive information I could divulge about the involvement of midwife, Laura Fullwood and Obstetric Consultant, Miss Sarah Harper in my care and delivery of baby Suzy but space is optimum.”
