“I was diagnosed with Placenta Previa and unfortunately spent a long time in and out of hospital, resulting in my baby being delivered at 34 weeks by emergency c-section. My named midwife, Rachel, had looked after me previously and without a shadow of a doubt saved my daughter’s life 7 years ago when she had to be resuscitated. Rachel also saved me in this pregnancy.
There were other health professionals in the team who were involved in my care I will never forget – Consultant Obstetrician, Audrey, and midwives Rosie and Michelle – but Rachel went above and beyond. I am under the care of the perinatal mental health team, and Rachel would attend my mental health appointments with me and even came to meetings on her days off to support me.
I was massively struggling mentally and physically and Rachel’s care, understanding, professionalism and compassion was superb. Rachel came to visit me when my baby was in the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU), she held my hand whilst I cried and held my hair back when I was suffering from sickness. Rachel and Michelle – another beautiful angel who cared for me and my family – came in the ambulance with me when I was blue lighted at 3am to another out of area hospital. This level of support is over what she is expected to do! Rachel deserves every bit of recognition for her outstanding care to my whole family! She understood all my concerns and continually advocated for my hopes and wishes, knowing my notes inside and out. This woman is worth her weight in gold.”
