“There are so many people that I could nominate for the excellent care the hospital gave me during my pregnancy and after the birth. Maternity teams often get bad press for the difficult job they do under such high pressure but I think it’s important we celebrate the little things they do without a second thought that really make a difference to our care, and our lives.

I finally conceived after having multiple rounds of IVF, then having bled throughout my twin pregnancy I spent a lot of time in triage. Finally at 34 weeks my waters broke, and I went into labour with my twins. They were delivered by emergency c-section – unfortunately I lost a lot of blood and the c-section turned very scary very quickly. My partner and the babies were taken from theatre, and I was left terrified while they tried to stop me bleeding. Paige, the midwife, treated me with such compassion, reassuring me and holding my hand during one of the scariest times of my life. I cannot thank her enough.

In the days to follow my babies were cared for by the transitional care nurses and NICU, they did such a good job which allowed me to rest and recover. The entire transitional care team made my stay in hospital so much more positive, and I especially would like to mention Gail, Emily and Jo on transitional care.

Midwife Paige on Community Maternity Unit (CMU) and the transitional care team made me so much more comfortable in what was a terrifying experience, they cared for me and my babies like you would care for your own family, and I will be forever grateful that they were there to guide me through the challenging first 10 days of my babies’ lives.”
