Jo’s passion for this work was initially fuelled by the experience of losing her own daughter as a result of healthcare harm, and the compounded harm caused by procedural and organisation centric responses that neglect to attend to the human and relational healing and justice needs such experiences create. 

Jo has provided a patient and restorative lens to national research and work developing policy for compassionate responses to harm. She provides Restorative Practice training and ongoing support to NHS organisations, and is involved in the codesign and facilitation of Restorative Processes addressing harm that has occurred in maternity settings.  As co-founder of the Harmed Patients Alliance she is dedicated to addressing the causes of compounded harm in the wake of safety incidents, and co-leads the Harmed Patient Pathway project shared with AvMA. Jo is a trustee of the Restorative Justice Council, a member of the Healthcare Working Group for the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Restorative Justice, and an ambassador for the Clinical Human Factors Group.
