Dave Moorcroft OBE

Dave Moorcroft OBE has been a Patron of Baby Lifeline since the charity’s early days. He is best known for breaking the World 5000m record in Oslo in July 1982. He competed at three Olympic Games, 1976, 1980 and 1984. He won Commonwealth Games Gold medals at 1500m in Edmonton 1978 and 5000m in Brisbane 1982.

Following his career as an athlete, Dave worked as part of the BBC’s athletics presentation team from 1983 to 1997.

In 1997, he was appointed the CEO of the British Athletic Federation, taking it from bankruptcy when he arrived, to financial security and the creation of a new governing body, UK Athletics.

Following his departure from UK Athletics in 2007, Dave was a part of the Nations and Regions team for London 2012, became the Director of Sport for the 2012 legacy project, Join In, and has commentated for Canadian television at the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games.

Dave founded what is now the Coventry Sports Foundation in 1981 and has remained involved as a Trustee and Executive Director. Dave was awarded an MBE in 1983 and OBE in 1998 for services to British Sport.
