Dr. Alison Wright
Dr Alison Wright is a National Specialty Advisor (NSA) in Obstetrics for NHS England/Improvement.
As such, she advises and contributes to national guidance on all aspects of women’s health, with a particular remit for personalised care in maternity services.
Alison is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at the Royal Free Teaching Hospital in London and her clinical interests include high risk obstetrics, intra-partum care, infectious diseases in pregnancy, and childbirth related trauma and urogynaecology.
She is the immediate past Vice-President of the RCOG, and in that role, set up and led a programme of work ‘Supporting our doctors’. This service provides practical support to doctors who are experiencing stress, burnout, or other difficulties in the workplace.
Alison now sits on the council of the GMC and works with the GMC on initiatives including ‘supporting a profession under pressure’.
Alison has a long track record of working with service users. She co-chaired workstream 3 of the maternity transformation programme and inputs to the personalised care institute’s training material.
She is currently working on the ‘I decide’ decision making tool, which has arisen from a need to improve information giving, communication and safety in intrapartum care, following the case of Nadine Montgomery, and chairing a multi-agency steering group to address improving safety culture in maternity services.
Alison also advises on global women’s health, via FIGO and WHO.
She is committed to improving maternity services, by collaboration, supporting provision of evidence-based care, high quality training, and involving women and birthing people and their families in their own care.
