Alexandra Barr

Alex has been a registered Nurse within the NHS for the last 13 years, initially working in the Acute Admissions (Emergency Care Unit) before deciding to focus on the Renal speciality.

In April 2020, her life took a significant turn when her second child – daughter Marnie – was unexpectedly stillborn at full-term. Her death was very much preventable, with several safety recommendations highlighted.

Alex has since left her role as a Nurse, choosing to split her time between her young family and on maternity safety and improvements. She is involved with several patient public involvements, research and studies and volunteers her time as peer support for the charity Pregnancy Sickness Support (PSS).

Alex said:

“I am honoured to be chosen by Baby Lifeline to be part of their Family Voices Group. I hope that my contributions and perspective will help support the change and improvements within the maternity sector that are so desperately needed.”
