Shaun Lintern

Shaun is health correspondent for The Independent where he covers the healthcare across the UK as well as undertaking in-depth investigations into the NHS. He was named Health Journalist of The Year in 2020 by the Society of Editors. Since joining The Independent in October 2019, Shaun has led the coverage of maternity safety in the NHS including reporting on the Shrewsbury, East Kent and Nottingham scandals. He and The Independent campaigned with Baby Lifeline for investment in safety training for maternity staff, resulting in a £96 million investment by NHS England in 2021. Shaun has been reporting on UK healthcare since 2010 and was previously bureau chief for the Health Service Journal. He helped to expose the Mid Staffordshire hospital care scandal while working as a local newspaper reporter in the West Midlands and maintains a strong personal interest in patients’ safety and improving NHS culture with regards its treatment of patients.
