MAJOR OBSTETRIC HAEMORRHAGE – MANAGEMENT OPTIONS
Major obstetric haemorrhage remains a significant cause of maternal mortality. The aims of this one day meeting was to review the various management options available, to highlight how multidisciplinary teams can work better together and also offered interactive sessions in smaller groups. It was arranged on behalf of Baby Lifeline by Dr Felicity Plaat, Consultant Obstetric Anaesthetist, London and Mr Kim Hinshaw, Consultant Obstetrician, Sunderland and Immediate past Chair ALSO(UK).
Maternity Clinical Governance Summit
BABY Lifeline in partnership with Care Services Improvement Partnership (CSIP).
The summit was aimed at all key stakeholders in maternity services and will provided an opportunity to share challenges and explore possible solutions with your peers. From this summit a local and national action plan for the improvement of clinical governance within maternity service provision is being developed.

The spectre of litigation haunts all midwifery and medical practitioners. This conference brings together experts from the fields of maternity care and medical law to explore the fundamental areas of practice associated with litigation.
Topics covered in this comprehensive programme included: standards of expected care in the management of fetal distress, instrumental delivery, shoulder dystocia and issues around consent.
This conference enables clinicians to gain a clearer comprehension of the role of the law and lawyers and the complexities of the legal process.

The Management of Obstetric Emergencies – For Lawyers

This conference provided a unique opportunity for legal practitioners involved in medical negligence to experience the type of ‘hands on’ scenario training that midwives and obstetricians attend.
The programme was designed to provide current theoretical and practical knowledge on the management of obstetric emergencies and was delivered by an excellent faculty of eminent clinicians.

THE MANAGEMENT OF OBSTETRIC EMERGENCIES
Thursday 26th April 2007, Coventry
This conference has been designed to update midwives, obstetricians and anaesthetists on the management of obstetric emergencies and will be particularly valuable to facilitators of in-house ‘skills drills’ and Risk Managers.
As well as providing current theoretical and practical knowledge on the management of obstetric emergencies, the programme will cover topics such as: different approaches to the organisation of training, how to meeting the CNST requirements and learning from adverse outcomes.
MANAGEMENT OF ‘FETAL DISTRESS’ AND THE NEONATE REQUIRING RESUSCITATION
Thursday 29th March 2007, Coventry
Despite advances in technology and knowledge approximately 8,000 babies still die at or around the time of birth every year in the UK and many more suffer permanent injury from hypoxic ischaemic encephalopathy.
The aim of this conference is to present current clinical data on key issues in the care of the fetus and neonate in ‘distress’. The programme will be delivered by an excellent multi-disciplinary faculty chosen for their expertise and ability to communicate first hand knowledge to others. Pertinent clinical issues will be discussed and will include practical management of fetal distress, intrauterine resuscitation, basic neonatal physiology and resuscitation as well as the consequences of getting it wrong.

BABY LIFELINES 2nd INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
January 24rd – 26th 2007 Venue: The Sheraton Hotel, Abu Dhabi
Baby Lifeline’s 2nd International Conference held in conjunction with the Al Corniche Hospital in Abu Dhabi attracted approximately 450 delegates over the 3 days. The faculty of 14 eminent clinicians from the UK and Sweden delivered a varied and well received programme which consisted of a combination of didactic lectures and ‘hands on’ workstations.
