‘Coronation St’ favourite –Jimmi Harkishin – “Dev” gets Baby Lifeline off to a flying start as a new Vice President of the charity
Presentation of Funding – Manor Hotel Meriden - Sunday, 2nd November 2003
Following the successful launch of Baby Lifeline’s £1 Million UK Baby Challenge and the tremendous support from Jimmi Harkishin who plays Asian corner shop owner - “Dev” in ‘Coronation St’, Baby Lifeline has enrolled him as a Vice President.
Jimmi, the first Asian Vice President for the charity, attended a presentation evening where over £10k has been raised as a result of the 3 Lakes Challenge Dragon Boat Campaign. This funding will pay for a vital international training CD Rom package for maternity emergency care. Baby Lifeline’s work to date in this area has also ensured that some of it can be used by Professor David Southall and his Keele University team to help doctors and midwives, particularly in the third world, to deal appropriately in childbirth emergency situations.
Also presenting funds on the night were representatives from the Jigsaw Day Nursery Group, who, over the years have raised a phenomenal £100k to purchase maternity hospital technology as well as contributing to Baby Lifeline’s national and international vital health professional training for maternity hospitals. At the presentation they handed over a further £3k to Baby Lifeline, and again Professor David Southall, for the redevelopment and production of a DVD training international module for best practice in Paediatric emergencies.
Judy Ledger – Founder and Chief Executive of Baby Lifeline says “I’m absolutely delighted with the tremendous support we have, and are, receiving for the £1 Million UK Baby Challenge -which has already raised in excess of £220k since its launch in September. I am delighted that Jimmi has accepted a position with this charity as a Vice President – particularly to support a lot of the work and alliance with the Asian community. I am also delighted that the 3 Lakes Challenge – of which I was part – was so successful and has funded such an important emergency training programme, that will not only help our own mothers and babies in the UK, but many, many thousands of others internationally.
Jigsaw Day Nurseries have also been tremendously supportive for a number of years now, and have raised in excess of £100k. At the presentation evening they presented a further £3k which will enhance and produce a vital emergency training module for Paediatric care both nationally and internationally.
On behalf of Baby Lifeline, relevant health professionals and indeed pregnant mothers and newborn babies, I would like to thank everyone concerned for their generosity and support to date”.
