Fundraising in 2005
Remembering Debbie Moss
November 2005
Debbie to be remembered, and many future Mums and babies to benefit through Baby Lifeline’s first donations to
Coventry’s new Women’s Hospital.
The Family and friends of Maureen and Tom Moss, joined Baby Lifeline’s Vice President Dave Moorcroft, it’s Founder – Judy Ledger, fundraising manager- Clive Skelhon, and other benefactors to present what is the first donation of equipment to the new Coventry’s Women’s Hospital. Also present at the dinner for 60 people at the new Butts stadium for Coventry's Rugby Club, was Harry Walker, the oldest surviving England Rugby Captain
Senior midwifery and medical staff were present to accept over £12k worth of equipment ranging from 3 biliblankets and accessories (specialist phototherapy cots for new born babies), 30 paediatric stethoscopes for use by doctors, midwives and nurses in the special care baby unit), a wide screen DVD/TV unit for parents in Coventry’s parentcraft classes and a lap top for Baby Lifeline for use in all of it’s specialist and national training conferences for health professionals. Funding for health professionals training places on courses has also been provided.
Consultant obstetrician Laurence Wood and Carmel McCalmont - Head of Midwifery for Coventry’s maternity unit were joined by Modern Matrons – Isabelle McDermot and Bernie O’Donaghue in thanking Tom and Maureen Moss and other donors. Laurence and Carmel paid tribute to Maureen and Tom and all who raised the funds, and stressed the gratitude that was felt by all of the staff at the hospital, at receiving equipment that would help to support the care of so many mothers and babies of the future.
Generous and kind hearted Tom and Maureen Moss, their close family and friends were united in grief, when their daughter Debbie died tragically and prematurely earlier this year.
Known to be very generous and warm hearted people, and extremely supportive of Coventry based Mother and Baby Charity – Baby Lifeline, they wanted to ensure that Debbie was remembered in Coventry, and would help others.
Family and friends helped to raise over £10K, and further funds were added by Leamington based company – Bravissimo, and
Maureen and Bill Middleton (from a 65th birthday party)
Founder and Chief executive of Baby Lifeline – Judy Ledger said ‘It is now nearly 25 years since Baby Lifeline was founded in Coventry to support pregnant women and newborn babies – it still amazes me how generous and warm hearted many people can be. Through such tragic circumstances, Maureen and Tom have selflessly thought of others and feel that their daughter’s memory can live on and help so many others. I have known Tom and Maureen and their family for a few years now, and can never thank them enough for the support that they have given Baby Lifeline. They are true friends and kind people.
Other donors from Bravissimo and Maureen and Bill Middleton
have also been so generous.'
