CEMACH APPOINTS NEW CHAIR
CEMACH has appointed Baby
Lifeline Training's Professor James Walker to be the new Chair of CEMACH from
1st April 2009.
Jimmy Walker has been Professor in the University Department of Obstetrics
and Gynaecology at St James University Hospital, Leeds since 1994 and
undertakes a wide range of additional professional activities. He is an
elected member of the Council of the Royal College of Obstetrics and
Gynaecology (RCOG) and is on a number of national advisory bodies including
the Maternity Matters Advisory Group and Maternity Care Working Party. He
chaired the national Sentinel Caesarean Section Audit.
Professor Walker is also Baby Lifeline Training Limited's President and Head of
Training Faculty.
The current CEMACH Chair, Professor Michael Weindling, who helped set up the
new organisation in 2003 and has chaired it ever since said: "CEMACH has
developed greatly since the early days and now publishes national and local
reports across the full range of its maternal, perinatal and child health
remit. I am delighted that Jimmy Walker has been appointed to take the
Enquiry to the next stage of its development."
Commenting on his appointment, Professor Walker said: "Confidential enquiry
has always played an important part in my professional life and I am
delighted to be appointed as the next Chair of CEMACH. I would like to pay
tribute to the major contribution made by Michael Weindling as Chair over
the last six years of significant change and development at CEMACH. I look
forward to continuing to shape the future of the Enquiry and helping guide
CEMACH through the opportunities and challenges of the coming years. The
future development of the national child health enquiry will be a particular
priority."
