30 MINUTES TO DELIVER!
Date: Wednesday 26th January 2005
Venue: The National Motorcycle Museum, Birmingham
Every year in the UK there are around 120,000 caesarean sections of which 16% are "urgent" – i.e. there is an immediate threat to the life of a woman or fetus. In these cases the decision-to-delivery interval is critically important. It is a time of immense stress for the woman and her partner, and of anxiety for the professionals. Speed is necessary for the baby, but safety is essential for the mother. Questions are now being raised about consent obtained in such circumstances. Subsequent allegations of "brain damage" may lead to multi-million pound claims but the opinions of medicolegal experts, hitherto decisive, are now being challenged by evidence on what really happens during the decision-to-delivery interval.

NATIONAL SERVICE FRAMEWORK FOR CHILDREN:
MATERNITY SERVICES. A BLUEPRINT FOR CONTEMPORARY MATERNITY CARE
Date: Thursday 21st April 2005
Venue: Coventry University Technology Park
The objective of modern maternity care is to put every woman at the centre of a service designed around them and their individual needs, and to make these services accessible. High quality maternity care includes the involvement of health care professionals throughout the continuum of pregnancy and offers support into early parenting.
There are many challenges facing the providers of today's services including overcoming inequalities and improving access and choice for all women, particularly those from the most vulnerable groups where known outcomes of pregnancy are worse. The Maternity National Service Framework explores ways of addressing such a service for today and the future.
Baby Lifeline, through its highly regarded study days, is among the first organisations to disseminate the information contained within the report to all those concerned with maternity care.
